Large sculpture of two German shepherds/Alsations mounted on an Art Deco marble base by Louis-Albert Carvin (French, 1875-1951).
Engraved signature on the lower right corner of the marble base (L.CARVIN)
Louis-Albert CARVIN was born in Paris in 1875 , he studied under Gardet and Fremiet.

Carvin was a member of the Société des Artistes Français, he exhibited at the Salon des Artists Francais from 1894 until 1933. Carvin was awarded the Medal of Honour in 1894. He sculpted “La muse de l’aviation”, a bronze trophy given to Wilbur et Orville Wright on May 1, 1909 on the occasion of their reception by the aéro-club de la Sarthe (Le Mans, France). It is still in the Honour room of their family house (Hawthorne Hill, Dayton, Ohio). Other Carvin works can be seen in Clamart (Paris), square de la Maison Blanche.

He sculpts stags, does, lions, lionesses, panthers, birds, dogs (especially german shepherds for which he is particularly noted), and horses.

This sculpture is in perfect condition with no damage or chips to the marble base. It is a substantial piece weighing approx 30lbs
Sculpted in Patinated Calamine spelter (zinc alloy). The black and yellow effect to the marble base enhances the art deco design.
The marble plinth is made of ‘Porto Nero’ marble and Sienna marble. Marble, patina and spelter in good condition, no cracks and minimum stains on the patina
