Original 1920s French Antique Print – Illustrated Alphabet Letter Y Dictionary Illustration (19x29cm)

Celebrate the beauty of vintage typography and maritime history with this original 1920s antique French dictionary page highlighting the letter “Y.” Carefully rescued from a classic French encyclopedia, this lovely page is crowned with a stunning, highly detailed allegorical header block that is a true work of art.

This is an authentic, century-old antique bookplate, not a modern reproduction. The beautiful artistry and classic French text make it a uniquely personalized and historical decor piece with a distinct nautical flair.

The Art Details: The standout feature of this print is the large, ornate engraving at the top for the letter “Y,” set against a backdrop of majestic sailing ships on the open ocean. It is beautifully flanked by two allegorical female figures:

• NAVIGATION on the left, depicted holding a small vessel and surveying the sea.

• COMMERCE on the right, holding a winged staff (caduceus) and representing trade and economic prosperity. Below the header, the page features authentic French dictionary entries starting with the letter Y, accompanied by delightful miniature engravings including a Yacht (showing both sail and steam variations), a Yack (Yak), and a Yatagan (a traditional curved sword).

Aesthetic & Decor Potential: Vintage alphabet prints are incredibly versatile. Because of the heavy maritime and trade themes in the header, this piece is particularly perfect for a coastal home, a nautical-themed office, or a business study. It also makes fantastic personalized initial art for a nursery, bedroom, or gallery wall (perfect for a Yvonne, Yves, or Yolanda!).
